Why should I choose sustainable furniture?
Share
You can make a big difference for the climate, your own indoor climate, the environment and for the employees who produced your furniture if you choose a sustainable piece of furniture rather than a piece of furniture that is not sustainable.
One of the biggest climate culprits is the CO emissions embedded in products, and therefore it makes good sense to choose a product made from recycled or surplus materials, because in that way you do not emit CO2 to produce new materials. However, you must also pay attention to the CO2 emissions emitted during the production, transport and use of the product, and how long the product can last before it needs to be repaired or replaced and whether the product can be included in the production of new similar or other products.
It is also important to choose a piece of furniture that helps to give you a good indoor climate. Already, the air in your house is on average 4 times worse than the air outside. Therefore, please choose products that have been treated with natural surface treatments such as wax and natural oils, and products that do not use e.g. glue or other chemicals etc. which exhausts to your home.
If you choose a piece of furniture that is made from recycled or surplus materials, you also avoid having to plant new trees or extract new materials such as marble or the like from the ground, and thus a larger area can go to pure nature and create a larger biodiversity.
